Testimonial Videos

Comunity Voices

During the Living Future 2024 conference, I coordinated with an onsite videographer to create a series of testimonial videos to highlight community members, organizational impact, and develop a library of assets to use when promoting future conferences.

Process

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) organization had been publishing testimonials since before I joined the team; however, they were static images with quotes and occasionally a photo of the person sharing their statement. When a videographer was hired for the Living Future conference, the marketing team decided to use this opportunity to introduce video testimonials, which we called “Community Voices.”

I advocated for keeping the length between 30-45 seconds, citing the attention span of audiences and that this format would be on scrollable platforms like social media. We also decided to record the testimonials in a 9:16 aspect ratio since they would mostly be watched on mobile devices.

I compiled a question bank framed to encourage shorter responses. Questions not only included conference experience, but allowed participants to choose additional topics where the organization’s mission intersected with broader topics, such as materials health and regenerative design. At the event, I coordinated with the videographer on setup and backdrop and recruited volunteers to share their testimonials. Once the raw files were ready, I shared graphic assets and a brand guide with the videographer, who compiled the series of videos. To ensure accessibility, I also had the videographer create two versions—one with embedded captions for platforms like Instagram Stories, and another with a loadable SRT file so that viewers could turn on captions on platforms such as YouTube.

Once the videos were produced, I created a library highlighting each video’s topic and tracking for use in various campaigns. When we updated the ILFI branding later the year, including a new logo, color palette, and font scheme, I updated the original videos to include a new intro slide and added an outro slide promoting the next event. From a metrics perspective, the Community Voices videos have significantly higher engagement compared to static testimonials.
